What is Grief Massage?
Grief Massage is a supportive relaxation massage meant to help you connect with your body after a significant loss. It's fully body-based and can be a gentle way to ease your nervous system during a time when it can be incredibly difficult to relax.
How is Grief Massage helpful?
Grief is STRESSFUL! It can put your body into a constant state of fight/flight/freeze that can damage your body and mind. Massage can help reduce stress, improve sleep and circulation, and soothe muscle tension, and thus can help ease this difficult transition.
What makes a Grief Massage practitioner different?
The specific massage techniques chosen and the Massage Therapist's training is what makes grief massage practitioners uniquely qualified to help you through your grief journey. I have completed a series of 5 courses on Grief Massage through the Institute for Grief Massage and have created a massage sequence specifically tailored for deep caring and stress reduction. I have done a lot of work to create a safe space where people can come just as they are into a completely judgement free and compassionate place with no need to do anything but sink into the table and receive assisted relaxation.
When should I seek Grief Massage?
Whenever it feels right for you. The death of a loved one, divorce or breakup, loss of a job, difficult diagnosis, or any significant loss you experience can cause grief, which never really goes away but changes with time. The best way to approach grief massage is to schedule regular sessions, when that feels good to you, to help establish an ongoing self-care routine. Some clients need just a few sessions, others continue to have regular sessions for a year or more after a loss, some seek grief massage years after the loss if they realize they are still holding it in their bodies, and often people will come back annually for the loss anniversary.
How much do sessions cost?
If you'd like to start with a phone conversation to see if grief massage is a good fit for your needs, this is free of charge.
